My Celebrity Client

08.27.10 | Permalink | Comment?

The husband of one of my favorite clients was a top rock ‘n roll DJ back in the 1960s here in Phoenix Metro.  He came in for a manicure recently and we had a great time.  Norm Seeley has many stories to tell about his days as a rock ‘n roll DJ.  I especially enjoyed hearing about the time Lesley Gore, of “It’s My Party and I’ll Cry If I Want To” fame, insisted on riding in Norm’s yellow Corvette instead of the limousine waiting at the airport to take her to the concert venue.

He and several others known as the KRUX “Good Guys” from the 1960s and 1970s will be reminiscing about their history this Saturday at the first-ever KRUX DJ reunion.  You can read all about it in the Scottsdale Republic.  As you can see from this photo, Norm’s hands look great after receiving my nail goddess treatment.

A Pedi Vacation

08.19.10 | Permalink | Comment?

My family and I have not taken a vacation yet this year, but I certainly have dreamed about where I’d like to go.  Somewhere on the beach is always nice.  Don’t you just love walking on sand?  It’s actually quite good for your feet.  The sand’s natural abrasiveness exfoliates your feet smoothing away calluses and dry skin.  And, as your toes grip the sand, you’re toning up your legs and derrière.

If you want that same experience without going to the beach, come in for a pedicure.  I always use terrific scrubs on your feet that contain sugar crystals and other natural ingredients to keep your feet looking and feeling fantastic.  While I massage your feet just lean back and pretend you’re at the beach.  Be sure and send me a postcard.

The Need to Hydrate

08.05.10 | Permalink | Comment?

Living in the Sonoran Desert one learns to appreciate water and the need for hydration in general.  Drinking enough water throughout the day is critical for the human body to stay healthy and survive.  Eating fruits and vegetables can also add water to your body.  And, do not forget your skin’s need for moisture.  Since we live in such a dry environment, our skin needs more than just our daily intake of water.  It’s important to hydrate the skin with a good water-based moisturizer.  Apply lotion right after you bathe or shower while your skin is still moist.  This will help to keep the moisture locked in to the skin’s surface.

If your hands are dry, keep a bottle of moisturizer nearby and use throughout the day.  Cuticle oil is also a great way to keep your fingertips moist and looking good.  Olive oil can make a good substitute for this.  Your feet will also need regular moisturizing to keep them looking and feeling their best.

So, my friends, do not forget — stay hydrated!

Take a Color Vacation

07.24.10 | Permalink | Comment?

When giving a manicure or pedicure there comes a point during the session when I ask, “So, what color are we doing today?”  With some clients it is always the same color and they never deviate from that choice.  They feel safe and they know it works for them.  Other clients have a certain set of colors they will choose from depending upon the season and what mood they are in on that day.  I certainly aim to please all of my clients with whatever color choice suits them.  However, I must admit, I get thrilled when a client says they want to try something new.

Since it’s summer time and this is the season for vacations, why not take a vacation from your standard choice of nail polish colors and try something totally different?  Walk on the wild side and be a little daring with your color choice.  Call me today and we can schedule your next color vacation with a manicure and/or pedicure.

Every eye will be on you on your wedding day and especially the third finger of your left hand!

A few weeks before the big day come in for a manicure and we will talk about getting your hands looking their best.  French manicures are common for brides however, you might want to explore soft, sheer shades like those in Essie’s wedding collection.  These shades are perfect for brides.

Be sure to keep your hands soft and supple with daily application of hand lotion and cuticle oil.  Wear gloves when cleaning the kitchen or working in the garden.  Schedule your manicure and pedicure just before your wedding day to get you looking your best.

And, remember to schedule a manicure for the groom so his hands will look their best as he’s holding yours.

Fun Team Building Events

Recently I participated in an event at ASU for a group of students as a break from final exams.  It was an M&M party with massages and manicures.  I provided manicures and our massage technician provided chair massages.  And, as part of the theme, bowls of M&Ms were everywhere.  It was great fun for everyone and a relaxing event for students dealing with the stresses of final exams.

Would you like to host such an event for your team or group of friends or coworkers?  My salon mates and I would be happy to arrange such an event at your location.  You choose the services you would like provided and we will put together a special package deal just for you.

Call me today and we will design an event your team will enjoy.

Hong Kong OPI

Looking for some new colors?  I’ve got the Hong Kong collection by OPI.  This collection contains bold colors with both shimmers and creams.  A bold jade green or a rich cobalt blue would look great for a pedicure.  There’s also beautiful lavender, a deep juicy plum and a rich violet which look outstanding for a manicure.  If hot colors are more to your liking try a blazing hot red, mandarin orange, a rich caramel color or a shimmering glimmering gold.  Check out these great colors next time you come in for a manicure or pedicure.

Put Your Best Hands Forward

05.03.10 | Permalink | Comment?

The old sayings, “put your best foot forward” and “dress for success” still apply today, especially when you’re looking for a new job.  You’ve polished your resume and honed your interviewing skills.  Make sure you look the part as well.  Pay attention to the little details too.  Well manicured hands, whether you’re a woman or man, say that you care about your appearance and you pay attention to those all-important details that sometimes get overlooked.

Even if you’re not interviewing for a management position, it’s important to look well groomed.  For women, a smart looking French manicure or neutral shades of nail polish add a finishing touch to your interview attire.  Carefully trimmed and buffed nails gives a man a well groomed and finished appearance.

Call today and schedule your appointment and I will get your hands ready for the big interview. And, if your a bit stressed about the job search, schedule a relaxing pedicure too.
